Apache Lake

Apache Lake is a scenic reservoir located in central Arizona, surrounded by dramatic desert mountains and crystal-blue waters. Known for its peaceful atmosphere and lesser crowds, it is one of the best spots in Arizona for boating, fishing, kayaking, camping, and lakeside relaxation. The lake stretches for over 17 miles and is part of the Salt River chain of lakes.

General Access

Best Driving Route

The smoother and more reliable access route is from Roosevelt Dam side via AZ-188, then Apache Lake Road.

Apache Trail Route (AZ-88)

Portions may be unpaved or closed due to washouts. Always check road conditions before traveling.

Vehicle Type

Standard vehicles can reach via the Roosevelt side; however, a high-clearance vehicle is recommended if approaching via Apache Trail.

Tonto Pass

Some recreation areas around the lake require a Tonto National Forest Day Pass.
