Surrounded by pine forests, the lake sits at an elevation of 7,200 ft and is a popular destination for trout fishing, electric boating, and forest-based recreation. The lake is part of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, offering scenic views, hiking, and camping.

Best Driving Route

Access Woods Canyon Lake via AZ-260 E from Payson, then turn onto FR 300 / Woods Canyon Lake Rd; some portions are unpaved and narrow.

Woods Canyon Lake Trail Route

Follow the lake perimeter trail through pine forest and gentle slopes , suitable for hiking and wildlife observation.

Vehicle Type

Passenger cars can usually access in dry weather. High-clearance vehicles recommended in wet or snowy conditions.

Tonto Pass

Not required. Woods Canyon Lake is located in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, not Tonto National Forest.
