General Access

Open year-round, sunrise to sunset. River access is managed by Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (NPS).

Best Driving Route

Take U.S. Highway 89 to Lees Ferry Road near Marble Canyon, then follow signs to the Lees Ferry Boat Launch.

Glen Canyon Dam to Lees Ferry Trail Route

Starts below Glen Canyon Dam and ends at Lees Ferry Boat Ramp (about 15 miles downstream), with most paddlers using a backhaul service to go upriver before floating back down.

Vehicle Type

All standard vehicles can reach Lees Ferry via paved roads.

Tonto Pass

Not required — this area is managed by the National Park Service not Tonto National Forest.

Entry & Fees

Lake Access - Access is available at Lees Ferry Boat Ramp, the only take-out and launch point for this stretch of the Colorado River.

Tonto Forest Day Pass - Not required — this area is managed by the National Park Service (NPS) under Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, not Tonto National Forest.

Camping Fees - No fee for day use, but camping along the river requires a free backcountry permit from the NPS. Camp only in designated areas between Glen Canyon Dam and Lees Ferry.
