Bartlett Lake

Located in the beautiful Tonto National Forest, Bartlett Lake is one of Arizona’s most scenic and accessible lakes. Nestled in the foothills of the Mazatzal Mountains, it sits about 48 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix. The lake was formed by the Bartlett Dam on the Verde River and is known for its sparkling blue water surrounded by desert landscapes, rugged canyons, and towering saguaro cacti.

General Access

Open year-round, 24 hours a day.

Best Driving Route

From Phoenix or Scottsdale, take Cave Creek (Pima) Road north, then follow Bartlett Dam Road 13 miles east to the lake.

Bartlett Dam Route

The route is unpaved or closed due to washouts, suitable for cars, RVs, and trailers. Always drive carefully on winding desert roads.

Vehicle Type

The final stretch to the lakeis paved and suitable for all vehicle types , including sedans, RVs, and trailers. No 4WD is required.

Tonto Pass

A Tonto Daily Pass or Tonto Discovery Pass is required for all visitors.
